Creating an account, interface overview, basic conversation mechanics
Claude is an AI assistant made by Anthropic, designed to be helpful, harmless, and honest. Whether you're drafting documents, analyzing data, writing code, or just brainstorming ideas, Claude is built to work alongside you as a capable collaborator.
Getting started takes less than two minutes. Visit claude.ai and sign up with your email address or an existing Google or Apple account. Once verified, you'll land directly in the conversation interface — no setup wizard, no configuration required.
Anthropic offers consumer and workplace plans that change over time. For AcademAI, the important habit is to understand your plan limits, know whether you are working in a personal or team workspace, and avoid putting sensitive data into Claude unless your organization allows it.
Claude's interface is intentionally minimal. At the center is a message input box where you type your requests. Above it, the conversation history scrolls upward as you exchange messages. Key controls to know:
Claude reads your entire conversation history each time you send a message. This means you don't need to repeat yourself — you can refer back to earlier parts of the conversation naturally. However, each new chat starts completely fresh. If you want Claude to remember something across sessions, use a Project or paste in the relevant context at the start.
The context window is the total amount of text Claude can consider at once, measured in tokens. Claude models can work with large amounts of context, but more context is not automatically better. Good learners give Claude the right source material, label what matters, and ask it to separate facts from assumptions.
Try starting with something specific to your actual work. The more concrete your request, the more useful Claude's response will be. Instead of "help me write an email," try "write a follow-up email to a client who hasn't responded in two weeks — professional but friendly, about 100 words." Specificity is the key to quality output.
